Definition of Informed Consent:
"A doctor must obtain a patient's agreement (Informed Consent) to any course of treatment. Except in the case of an emergency, the medical provider is required to tell the patient anything that would substantially affect the patient's decision to accept or refuse the treatment. Such information includes the nature and purpose of the treatment, its risks and consequences and alternative courses of treatment."
